Craft Services

The snack table (in the hallway) where the crew actually meets each other.

On a set, craft services is where you figure out who everybody is bit by bit. Here: the things outside the work that are still very much the work. The recipes. The books. The playlists. The (Chicago) spots. This is a room kept deliberately lite and fun, a chance for you to know me, bit by bit.

The Recipe

The chocolate chip cookie that won.

I've been baking chocolate chip cookies since I was about 8 or 9 years old. It's my favorite cookie, the same as it is for millions of people in the world lol. I've been gladly acting as a sacrifice and testing different recipes for years, always bouncing around waiting for my favorite to come through. A few years ago it did and I've been a faithful devotee since. Chef Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc at Home chocolate chip cookie.

You should definitely buy the actual recipe book if you're so inclined, but the recipe is also shared fairly widely online. Enjoy!!

The Reading List

With June being Black History Month part 2, I always feel moved to read some Black history. So I'm reading 'On Juneteenth' by Annette Gordon-Reed, looking over and being wildly humbled by 'W.E.B. Du Bois's Data Portraits: Visualizing Black Life' in which he literally creates the concept of data portraits (which can also be seen in their entirety here) and I'm working my way through 'Plot, from the Elements of Fiction Writing' series.

I'm working on a historical, family epic so I gotta sharpen my tools!
